The new government is being slammed for reducing the number of women in cabinet.
Just three women have been appointed among the 15 Ministers.
That’s down one from four in the outgoing government.
Locally we returned three women in the Carlow Kilkenny constituency with Fianna Fáil’s Jennifer Murnane O’Connor considered a possibility for a Minister of State role when they’re announced next week.
But Women for Election Chair Aldagh McDonogh says not having more as senior ministers is a missed opportunity, noting; “We’re extremely disappointed, this was a superb opportunity to really reflect women’s voices around the decision-making table, we’ve gone down in numbers from four to three and there were many excellently talented women that could have been selected for a key position so we’re perplexed”.
