Nine local schools will be part of the Safe Routes to School Programme.
They’re among 170 primary and post-primaries chosen out of 932 interested around the country interested in the supports for walking and cycling infrastructure.
They were picked based on a range of criteria including school type, location and the school’s commitment to sustainable travel.
Queen of the Universe and St Brigid’s national schools in Bagenalstown, Scoil Mhuire gan Smál in Carlow Town and Scoil Phádraig Naofa in Rathvilly make the list with Kilkenny City’s CBS and Loreto secondaries as well as St John of God, St Patrick’s de la Salle and St Canice’s national schools.
