Some residents in Freshford County Kilkenny are just waiting for their homes and businesses to flood again.
That’s the view of Councillor Mary Hilda Cavanagh who raised the issue at the monthly meeting of Castlecomer Municipal District this week.
She called for an update on a flood relief scheme for the village, which has been impacted by heavy rain in recent times.
Speaking to KCLR News, Councillor Cavanagh says local people are rightly concerned about it noting; “Money has been allocated by central government but no action has been taken so far and three houses or stroke farm yards were very impacted by the last heavy rain back a few months ago, it remains a huge worrying issue for everybody in the town where the water just flows out through the eye of the bridge or wherever it comes from and floods premises and that’s not acceptable and I want to know exactly what’s happening”.
She adds “We had hoped some work would have been done before this winter but it’s not the winter any longer as you know from the last number of years, the heavy rain could come in the spring or the summer and people need to have some belief that work is about to take place that will take away the worry from them because if they claim on the insurance, they then won’t get insurance the following year which is another major problem so I think people need to know at this stage when work will be done in Freshford”.
