Figures released by the CSO have revealed that the suicide rate in Kilkenny increased significantly in 2015 compared to 2014.
14 people took their own lives across the county last year, a near doubling of the figures on the year previous.
This bucks the trend across Leinster as a whole, which was the only province to register an overall decrease in suicides.
Meanwhile, the amount in Carlow fell by more than a half and had one of the lowest rates in the country with five.
Overall across the country, there were 451 suicides in 2015, 375 of whom were men.
Meanwhile Waterford and Roscommon registered the most amount of suicides.
