Opportunistic thieves using electronic equipment to interfere with car locking mechanisms

You’re being urged to double check your car is locked before walking away from it.

It’s emerged opportunistic thieves are using electronic equipment that interferes with the locking mechanism of your car to help get their hands on your valuables.

Last week in Carlow a womans iPhone was stolen in this manner but the owner used the tracking device on her phone to identify its location.

Gardai subsequently searched a van in the area where the phone and other property that had been stolen in Kilkenny was recovered.

2 men arrested were charged at a special sitting of the district court on Friday.
