Consumers are being urged to shop around before they renew their health insurance.

Over 50 per cent of people who have health insurance are due to renew their plans between now and January.

The Health Insurance Authority is advising people to review their cover before it automatically renews.

CEO Brian Lee has these recommendations: The first step that people need to take is that they carefully review the renewal letter because there’s been several price increases and benefit changes throughout the year and that may impact their plans.”

“Then in terms of a next really good step is to use our new comparison tool, which is on our website, hia.ie. Also, many people have day-to-day benefits that they don’t use, so you could reduce your day-to-day benefits.”
