Permission has been granted for a solar farm in South Kilkenny.
Highfield Solar limited have been given the green light by Kilkenny county council to construct a Solar Energy development on a 10 acre site in Derrynahinch
Two renewable energy companies are behind the proposed development in Derrynahinch just northeast of Ballyhale.
The plan is to produce electricity for use by locals as required and the scheme will be connected to the network at the Ballyhale substation.
The power output of this solar farm is expected to be around five Mega Watts at its peak – In energy terms that should provide electricity for about 13 hundred homes a year.
Highfield have told KCLR news that construction for such a site is generally non-invasive and its expected the works would be completed within 12-16 weeks.
It will mean up to 40 jobs for the construction phase and when the development is up and running there will be the equivalent of about two full time jobs for management and maintenance activities.
