Slow down and remember driving conditions are becoming more challenging as we head into winter.
That’s the message from Gardaí and road safety chiefs, as they launch another ‘National Slow Down Day’ – it got underway at 7am this morning and continues for 24 hours.
Startling statistics show that one in 10 pedestrians will die if hit by a car travelling at 30km/h but 9 in 10 will die if the car’s travelling at double that.
And nobody wants to become a statistic.
Eleven people with ties to Carlow and Kilkenny have died either on local roads or elsewhere this year so far and the bid is to prevent further loss of life.
Motorists are asked to slow down and to remember that driving conditions will become more challenging over the next few days and weeks as evenings get darker and wintry showers loom.
