Sales of electric cars overtaking diesel ones for first time is no surprise for dealerships in Carlow and Kilkenny

Sales of electric vehicles have overtaken diesel ones for the first time here.

Figures from the Society of the Irish Motor Industry found they represent 17.8% of the new car market this year so far, just ahead of diesel, while petrol run remain the market leader at 26% with Hybrid at 22%.

282 EVs were sold in Kilkenny up 74 on 2024 figures while in Carlow the number is 180, a rise from 60 in the same time period.
