South East Technological University has become the first higher education institution in Ireland to deliver an in-person university programme within a prison.
The initiative, based at Portlaoise Prison, allows learners in custody to complete accredited modules as part of SETU’s Bachelor of Arts in Leadership and Community Development.
The programme is delivered in partnership with the Irish Prison Service and Laois/Offaly ETB, with SETU describing it as a landmark step in widening access to education and supporting rehabilitation through learning.
