Local musicians have been outlining how Shane MacGowan paved the way for them and others.
Tributes are continuing today to the singer who died yesterday aged 65.
Best known as the frontman for punk band ‘The Pogues’, he’ll always be remembered with one of the most popular Christmas songs Fairytale of New York.
But the band also brought out the instrumental track Wildcats of Kilkenny.
Shane’s mother Therese was from Tipperary and fans of his are hugely proud of his roots.
Alma Feeley Hayden works in Communications across Carlow and Kilkenny and has been telling KCLR News’ Edwina Grace about her encounter meeting Shane MacGowan many years ago;
Kilkenny musician Tómas Jackman paid tribute too while on The KCLR Daily with Brian Redmond for feature ‘What’s the Story?’:
While on the same show yesterday our Carol Dooley was joined by a number of well-known performers to tell their stories of the man behind the mic – hear that in full here;
