Slight improvements but patients still on trolleys at St Lukes
The situation at St Lukes hospital has improved today but there are still patients waiting on beds there.
Earlier this week the General Manager Ann Slattery told KCLR there had been sustained pressure at the hospitals Emergency Department since last week leading to an increase in admissions – mostly due to flu related illnesses.
It resulted in the forced cancellation of a number of Day procedures with appointments having to be postponed or rescheduled as all available beds were needed.
The HSE says the situation is slightly better today. However the Irish Nurses & Midwives organisations daily trolley watch reports 25 patients are still waiting on beds at the hospital.
The advice earlier this week was for only genuine emergencies to present at St Lukes emergency department.
That remains the case for today and into the weekend.
