St Luke’s General Hospital for Carlow and Kilkenny has country’s third highest number of people waiting on a bed

Advice is to stay away unless you need urgent care

Carlow Kilkenny’s General Hospital is busy and overcrowded this morning.

23 people are waiting on trolleys for a bed at the local hospital, according to figures released by the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation.

That’s the third-highest number in the country – 27 are waiting at Cork University Hospital with 25 at University Hospital Limerick.

Management at the local facility says there’s an increase in patients presenting to the emergency department with a variety of complex needs.

They’re warning us that there are ongoing IT issues due to the Cyber-attack and some patients are experiencing longer waiting times.

If you are ill do go to the ED but if you do not require urgent care you should consider consulting your GP.
