The Dail has voted in favour of a report into assisted dying but it has no legal implications.
The motion was to note the report of an Oireachtas Committee which recommended assisted dying be made legal in limited circumstances.
76 were in favour with 53 against.
Minister for Nature, Heritage and Electoral Reform Malcolm Noonan led the debate last week in Government and last night voted yes.
Fine Gael John Paul Phelan voted no, John McGuinness was unable to attend the vote but he told KCLR News that he does not support the report.
