This year marks the 100th anniversary of An Garda Siochana and districts across the country have been marking the occasion. We’ve recently heard from Kilkenny and Carlow, and today it was the turn of Thomastown, the ruling seat of South Kilkenny. A Centenary Commemoration Parade of serving and retired gardai took place this morning beginning at The Quay and moving to the community centre. One of the most familiar faces in the locality, Sgt Ted Hughes, provided some of the history in a speech en route.
