St. Lachtain’s of Freshford don’t have much time to savor their AIB Leinster Junior Hurling Championship victory, with the All-Ireland semi-final looming just around the corner.
The county and provincial champions edged past Castletown Liam Mellows 3-8 to 2-10 in a hard-fought final at SETU Carlow at the weekend. However, their focus must quickly shift to next Sunday’s All-Ireland semi-final clash against Easkey of Sligo in Ballinasloe—a game that will be broadcast live on KCLR.
Speaking after the Leinster final, centre-back Brian Kennedy emphasized the significance of the victory and the importance of enjoying the moment before preparing for the next challenge.
“We weren’t looking down the line because, look, we knew we had a huge battle here today,” he said. “We’ll knuckle down Tuesday night—we’ll celebrate tonight because, you know, you don’t often get great days with your club like this. They don’t come around too often, and when you do get them, this is what it’s all about.”
Kennedy also highlighted the impact the victory has had on the younger players in the team, describing it as a special moment for the entire club.
“Letting the young guys enjoy it—it’s brilliant for them. Some of the young guys might never have won anything with the club, and it’s just brilliant for them to be part of this and to be on this journey.”
