A former restaurant in north Kilkenny is set to provide shelter for those fleeing the war in Ukraine.
The Josephine’s Road House building in Urlingford was confirmed to KCLR News in January 2024 for this purpose with its owner coming into studio for a chat about it all.
Now the Department says from January 2025 onwards 48 beds will be provided at the premises in a 24-month contract.
They say “The centre will be entirely made up of people who are Beneficiaries of Temporary Protection fleeing the war in Ukraine. The profile of arrivals from the war in Ukraine to date is mainly women and children.”

“The people allocated accommodation in Josephine’s Road House, Main Street, Urlingford, Co. Kilkenny, E41 X9K1 will be moving from alternative State provided accommodation in the general area, where possible.”
“All accommodation contracted by the Department is temporary in nature.”
It has been suggested that some of the occupants may include a small number of those who have to leave the property known as Tougher’s Restaurant in Carlow but the Department says they do not comment on where individuals are relocated to.
