Carlow has more young Jobseekers than Kilkenny

1,338 young people are currently looking for jobs in Carlow and Kilkenny, according to the Department of Social Protection figures for those on the Jobseeker’s Allowance or Benefit.

Carlow has the higher number of young people who are on the lookout for work at 735 while in Kilkenny, the number is 603.

Off the back of these figures, the National Youth Council are callings for measures to reduce youth unemployment.

They’re calling for an investment of €30m in a renewed Youth Guarantee scheme and asking Government to incentivise education, training and work experience for young people by reversing the cuts in payments to young people on these schemes.

At the moment there’s over 40,000 young people on the live register, 16,000 of them have been on it for one year or more.
