Gusts of over 100km per hour have been recorded locally but Carlow and Kilkenny appears to have escaped the worst of Storm Éowyn.
That doesn’t mean we can get complacent however as we remain under a Red Wind Warning until 10am this morning, followed by an Orange one to 4pm.

Met Éireann says the record for the maximum ever gust of wind in Ireland has been broken overnight with 183 km/h noted at Mace Head, topping the 182 km/p in 1945, while Knock & Shannon weren’t too far behind at 139 and 137 km/h respectively. While the highest mean wind speed since the storm began was 130 km/h at Mace Head, which is a hurricane force wind.
