By-election build up underway as Funchion throws hat into the ring

Sinn Fein’s Kathleen Funchion has told KCLR that she would welcome the opportunity to contest the by-election.

The Kilkenny City West Councillor says she will be putting her name forward, but says the three councillors from Kilkenny and Carlow, as well as other members of the party, may also want to run.

The development of Carlow town needs to be considered in the forthcoming by-election contest.

That’s according to local councillor Fintan Phelan.

The Fianna Fail candidate says the town has been neglected since the closing of Braun and the sugar factory.

He says the IDA have only been to Carlow once in the past three years.
