Gardaí are warning they will have an increased presence on our roads in the coming days.
You’re being reminded to plan ahead and organise a safe way home if socialising over the Bank Holiday weekend.
Divisional roads police inspector Paul Donohoe told KCLR News; “We’ll be expecting a busy weekend, we’re bringing a few extra personnel in roads policing across the Division and we will be again, like we always do for what we call Operation Lifesaver, we’ll be increasing the number of mandatory intoxicant checkpoints around the counties and we’ll be increasing speed detection”.
He adds “Basically drink and drug driving is probably one of the biggest parts of a bank holiday weekend just to make sure we don’t have people on the roads drink and driving or taking drugs and driving and speed we will have a lot of speed checks on the road so we’d ask people when they’re travelling to drive carefully”.
It’s as two people have died in the early hours of this morning on a notorious stretch of the N80 in Carlow.
