Fewer than 30 per cent of those involved in the Job Bridge programme across Carlow and Kilkenny manage to secure a full-time job.
New figures released this week have shown that 551 people in Kilkenny and 480 in Carlow have to-date been involved in the scheme with only 27 per cent of those managing to gain employment from it.
The study shows that nationally almost 36 and a half thousand people have participated in Job Bridge.
Though 57 per cent have said they were satisfied, 44 per cent believed that the internship was used just for free labour.
The National Youth Council of Ireland are calling on the Department of Social Welfare to review and reform the programme.
