Local Councillor says Kilkenny needs an Armed Response Unit

Kilkenny needs an armed response unit to tackle rural crime properly.

That’s according to Renua Councillor and General Election candidate Patrick McKee who was speaking ahead of a public meeting on crime in Thomastown this evening.

It’s hoped a text alert system for the area will be set up tonight but Cllr McKee told KCLR News that more measures than that are ultimately needed.

He says more CCTV cameras as well as an armed unit of the Gardaí permanently based in Kilkenny are needed to deter and catch criminals.
