“Let the bridge be built first, and then worry about the name”

The words of South Kilkenny Councillor Fidelis Doherty about a new bypass being built to link Kilkenny and New Ross.

The new bridge, which will be one of the biggest of it’s kind in the world, is due to be completed inside of three years.

However, there’s been concerns raised by locals in South Kilkenny about the naming process – with New Ross Council suggesting it be called “the Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy” bridge.

Residents in South Kilkenny are not happy with this process, with some suggesting it should be put to public consultation.

Speaking to KCLR news this afternoon, Councillor Fidelis Doherty says it will take a lot more discussion.
