In News …

Locally: Three people arrested yesterday in connection with alleged animal cruelty at a farm in Carlow have been released without charge.  It’s up to IT Carlow & Waterford IT to make the Technological University of the South East happen according to Education Minister Jan O’Sullivan.  Two names may be going forward on the Labour ticket for the Carlow Kilkenny constituency in the next General Election.

Elsewhere:  Members of the banking inquiry committee will meet in private today to discuss the DPP’s advice that David Drumm not be allowed to give his evidence via video link.   Fianna Fail’s planning a series of welfare reforms to assist carers, lone parents and job seekers.  There’s speculation that Europe will rule that state funds spent on Irish Water will have to stay on the Exchequer balance sheet.  Post mortems are to be carried out on the bodies of a man and a woman in Louth.

And there’s excellent news for a local woman who’s finally to be given an important drug that will extend her life as she battles cancer.  The HSE had initially refused to fund her treatment. She tells about the u-turn.
