Kilkenny Councillor calls for review of Joint Policing Committee

A local Labour councillor is calling for a radical review of the Joint policing committee structure.

Maurice Shortall says at the moment ‘it lacks teeth’ and accountability.

He raised the matter at a meeting of Kilkenny county council this week.

He and fellow Councillor Tomas Breathnach had a motion calling for the Gardai, councillors and council officials to meet with members of the Travelling community.

He wants a new plan for the control of horses – including sulkies.

Councillor Shortall told KCLR news that should be the first item dealt with.
