Four of 10 first time mothers delivered by Caeserean section at St Lukes Hospital in 2012.
The HSE figures were obtained by AIMS – the Association for Improvements in the Maternity Services – it says under-resourced services are leaving women with very little birthing choices in Ireland.
The data from 19 public maternity units shows that a high percentage of new mothers undergo assisted deliveries and caesarean sections.
According to AIMS, there’s a lack of support for women who are hoping to avoid intervention during child birth.
