Temporary traffic restrictions are due to take effect in Tullow today (Monday, 12th Feb).

It’s on the L2012 between its junction with the R727 (Downings) and Brother Leo Park (GAA) on the Ballymurphy Road.

Localised drainage improvements are set to start at specific sites along the route, in advance of road resurfacing later this year.

The works will take place in stages between today and the 1st of March typically from 8am to 4:30pm each day.

  • Stage 1: Single day road closure from Monday 12th February 2024 from 9:15am to 2:30pm with a priority/yield system with single temporary closure thereafter
  • Stage 2: Single day road closure and priority/yield system thereafter (dates and times to be announced in follow-up notices as work progresses)
  • Stage 3: Two days’ road closures and priority/yield systems with temporary single lane closures thereafter (dates and times to be announced in follow-up notices as work progresses)
  • Stage 4: Priority/Yield system with temporary single lane closure (dates and times to be announced in follow-up notices as work progresses)
  • Stage 5: Priority/Yield systems with temporary single lane closures (dates and times to be announced in follow-up notices as work progresses)
  • Stage 6: Priority/Yield systems with temporary single lane closures (dates and times to be announced in follow-up notices as work progresses)
Residential and land owner access will be maintained while school buses and local milk collection lorries will be facilitated.
However, delays will be inevitable so anybody due to use the road is advised to avoid it for the duration of the works – the following can be used instead;
  • R727/R726 to Killerrig Cross and left onto the R418 and straight onto R725 to Tullow and vice versa
  • N81 from Tullow to Kill(magarvoge) Cross and left onto the R726 to Downings and vice versa

Added to that, crews will also be out from today to Wednesday (14th Feb) at Broomville in Ardattin for resurfacing on the L2021.

This will necessitate a full road closure between 8am and 5pm each day so motorists should be aware of delays and alternative routes.
