2,176 people are on the waiting list for housing in Kilkenny currently.
The highest demand is in the city – which accounts for 61% percent of the overall waiting list.
Kilkenny County Council gave an update on its plans to deliver more than 800 homes in the county by the end of 2021.
More than half of those will be provided through the councils building programme.
74 homes have already been provided, 56 are under construction with another 231 at various stages of design, planning and tender, while 121 are identified to start the design and planning process.
The council’s housing department has also purchased 45 properties so far this year.
