It’s been another busy seven days and so much has taken place.

Including a farmer protest across Carlow and Kilkenny, more on wind farms, the opening of the first part of Kilkenny City’s new Abbey Quarter area while Edward Hayden paid a visit to one of the oldest buildings, and a local vaccination milestone was reached.

As always, you can join our news team across the day, seven days a week, read the stories on kclr96fm.com and scoreline.ie or take us with you on the KCLR app.

Vaccinations

A vaccine milestone was reached locally this week with the 35,000th jab administered by world-renowned tenor and qualified Dr Ronan Tynan at Kilkenny’s vaccination centre at Cillin Hill.

Eimear Ní Bhraonáin caught up with the HSE’s just before that happened on KCLR Live:

Our Ethna Quirke was there to capture things as they happened for The Way It Is with Sue Nunn:

Abbey Quarter

Hot on the heels of the official opening of Carlow’s skatepark last week, it was Kilkenny’s turn.

The amenity forms part of the first reveal of the city’s newest section, the Abbey Quarter.

Our Edwina Grace attended proceedings and heard from County Council CEO Colette Byrne on where things sit with the site as well as speaking with some of those enjoying the new facilities, which also include a riverside park.

The audio aired on The Way It Is with Sue Nunn:

Rothe House Visit

Edward Hayden took a tour of Rothe House in Kilkenny for The Saturday Show:

Stand Up For Farming

IFA members across Carlow and Kilkenny took part in the organisation’s Day Of Action: Stand up for Farming on Friday.

There was a huge response in each county – read about that here

But ahead of the demonstration, local farmers outlined why they were taking part on KCLR Live with Eimear Ní Bhraonáin:

Wind Farms

On Tuesday, Kilkenny councillors voted to amend the city and county’s Draft Development Plan to limit the size of wind farms allowed locally.

They unanimously supported the changes at a special meeting which had been adjourned from last week after a record number of submissions were made by the public.

Sue Nunn was joined on The Way It Is by two of those involved in that vote:

There was further reaction the next day on The Way It Is too:

And again on Thursday’s programme:

Catch Up

There’s plenty more from across the week here on KCLR.

You’ll find our news stories here while regular key features from programmes covering a range of topics, including travel, fitness, health care, as well as repeats of our talk shows and more can be found in our Catch Up section.

Best of all, you can read and listen to everything in the KCLR app.
