KCLR news understands that this decision will bring with it full time positions in both Carlow and Kilkenny libraries.
41 staff were balloted across the libraries in both counties.
Members voted 87 percent in favour of industrial action, up to and including strike action.
It comes after talks between Mandate Trade Union and Tesco broke down at the workplace relations commission.
Today's stoppage will mark the 12th day of industrial action, in a long running row over pay.
